He was doing really well. He went to the nursing home's Christmas party and enjoyed it so much. Then he got a fever but was still alert. He had it for awhile and then they decided to take him to the hospital. He's been doing really good and they're aiming for Friday to send him back to the nursing home. Hope you all had a good Christmas!

We got pictures.. pictures.. pictures. Papa was kind of in a bad mood today and he wouldn't look at the camera. Our church went caroling today. He enjoyed that, as did many others in the nursing home. I tried to put more pictures but they only let me put two.

He was really awake and alert last night. I told you that they're giving him breakfast, but I didn't tell you that they're also going to lessen his thickening in his food, meaning that he's one step closer to eating regular food. He still has his sense of humor. He was making us crack up last night. We were doing some leg, arm, and mouth exercises with him and he followed along some. He needs to be strechted out, because at first when I pullled his leg up it really hurt him, but after a while, it stoppped hurting so bad. More later...

He's doing really good. He's more awake and eating really well. They're even going to put him on breakfast. Also, he passed his speech test.

My computer's still not fixed. Sorry.
He's not doing so good. They think he might have an urinary tract infection. He's is so tired. They say an infection does that though. We find out tomorrow if he has it or not. We're kind of hoping he does, because if he doesn't, he has something else, where as they could just treat the infection. Although we wish he didn't have anything. Just keep praying.

I am very sorry. My computer will be fixed on Friday, so it will be easier to write.
He's doing really well. They have him eating two meals now, lunch and dinner(it's still pureed). He's doing good in therapy; they have him standing up and stuff.

Sorry, I didn't write, my dad's computer broke. He's doing awesome. He was in a really bad mood tonight. He's just really aggravated that he can't get up and stop lying around.
We moved him into the nursing home here in Minoa. It is soooooooooooo much better than the other one. As soon as he got here, he got a new burst of energy and is talking up a storm. He is awake all the time we're there now. He's getting a lot stronger. He is getting so much better, so much quicker. He's having therapy twice a day, 5 days a week and once on Saturday versus once a day, 5 times a week.
The family is also making him better. But it's great to have him only a few minutes away. More updates later.

He was doing really good when we were there. He was talking and up for a while. We want him off the feeding tube in a little bit. He ate a really good meal. The most he has ate. The infection's going away, too.

Okay well, he fell out of bed the other night. He's okay, but they're going to have to watch him more closely because he wants out of the bed and he's getting stronger and next time he could get hurt. Other than that he's doing good.

He has an infection. He's on an antibiotic. He was kind of out of it when we went to see him. Just be praying about the infection. Other than that he's doing pretty good. He drank a whole glass of apple juice while we were there.

I'm so sorry I haven't been writing. My play's coming up and I've been so busy between that and homework. Sorry. Thanks to Uncle Larry, though, for leaving comments with updates.
He's doing awesome. He's on pureed foods. He had meatloaf, mashed potatoes, lemonade, cake, and others too. They tried to stand him up, but his blood pressure went up and they didn't want to risk it. He's doing so good. Thanks to the Lord. Thanks for all the support. Once the play's over I should be able to update more.

He's doing okay. When I saw him, he was kind of tired and his speech was slurred. They're starting him on pureed tomorrow. He sat in a regular wheelchair today with his head up. Well, that's it.

I went in Saturday and was amazed at what I saw. It was amazing. He was in a recliner and was awake and everything. I just wasn't expecting it. See, my Nana's there every day and doesn't see how much he's improving. I mean I only see him on the weekends and I can really see the difference. There wasn't much on Sunday. We kind of wore him out. But he's doing really good.

I'm leaving this afternoon. I'll give an update probably Monday.

A few quick things. His feeding tube fell out of his stomach and all his food fell all over the floor and the doctor's won't give him any more food.
Also, I don't want to sound pushy but I really want my grandfather to know who visited the website. I don't know if you read my uncle's comment, but if you didn't everything is okay. The bleeding on the brain has actually gone down. He's doing good. They actually have him out of the bed for the first time in four weeks. They lift him in this like swing thing and put him in recliners. But everything's going good.

I spoke too soon. Last night he had to go to the emergency room. A nurse forgot to feed him. At one point he just went limp. He was responding in the emergency room and we hope that it was just because they didn't feed him and not that he has more bleeding on the brain. Boy, are we upset. Just keep praying.

Sorry I didn't write yesterday. I was so tired because I stayed overnight at the nursing home with my Nana and I had to sleep in a straight back chair and got about an hour of sleep. Then we didn't get home until late. But everything is going good. Saturday he didn't wake up and I don't even think he knew we were there. But yesterday was amazing. He was awake for so long and talked a ton to us. He knew everything. He knew how and where he fell, and even knew what they where having for breakfast that morning. He was very knowledgeable with baseball. He talked on the phone to my Uncle Larry, my cousins, Marlee and Michal, and my brother, Chad. He was also really good with facial expressions. I would make faces at him and he would make them back. He winked at me and my sister. He also showed looks of bewilderment. His movement is also good. He lifted his head up for me to kiss him. He squeezed both hands and lifted both arms. The therapist is coming soon, I think she might of come today. He is still on the feeding tube, but when we put a sponge in his mouth, he'll suck on the water and then swallow it. So maybe that's a sign. The nursing home is okay. We aren't very pleased with it, but some of the nurses are great. He has a really great roommate. His name is Sam. He's a great guy. I have a feeling when my papa gets to the point where he awake most of the time and will just talk without being asked questions, that they'll be great friends. Sam's great. He's so nice and friendly. It's terribly sad that he has to live like that. I had such a hard time leaving papa last night. It was hard enough to leave him before, but it's even harder when he's asking you why you have to leave and has tears forming in his eyes. I can't wait to go back. More updates later.

Just wanted to say that I won't be able to write until tomorrow night, because I'm leaving right now to go to Endicott and I don't know if the nursing home has wireless connection.

Just a quick update. He's in the nursing home. My Nana's a little upset. They're not feeding him and he has a bad case of hiccups. My Nana is staying there tonight. Well, that's all, keep praying. Thanks.

Not much new. He is in his own room now. My Nana sounded a little disappointed today, but he'll have his ups and downs and recovery will take a while. That's basically it. Thanks!

I'm sorry I didn't write yesterday. It's just I only had two days to spend with him and when he's talking, I didn't want to hang out in the waiting room. He's talking a ton now. He's saying full sentences. The doctor said it's nothing short of a miracle. He knew that my brother, Chad, had transferred to a different college and when it was time for Chad to leave, he didn't want to let him go. He's telling us stuff he wants, like to blow his nose, watch tv, wet his mouth, that he's hungry (although he can't eat). He tells us he loves us, and he says he wants to keep talking although he's tired. Sometimes he answers all our questions right and other times he tells us he doesn't know and that we're confusing him. Well, it's all unbelievable.

It seems that every day the news gets better and better. Well, right now he's in surgery and
I know that sounds bad, but it's nothing serious. He's just getting the feeding tube put into his stomach. Next week though he's moving into a nursing home. He's even talking too. Today, Nana told him they were going over to the cafeteria and he asked what they're having. He said his last name, and they asked him where he was and he didn't know. Then she asked him if he loved her, and he said yes and she asked how much and he said too much. He also got excited when he heard we were coming. Well, more updates later.

A few quick things. My Nana just called and said they sat in the room with him for three hours today and just got home. The nurse called when they got home and said that some person, I can't remember their title, came in and they asked him to stick out his tongue and he did. They also asked him who his wife is and he tryed to say Gladys. They're going to put the feeding tube in his stomach tomorrow and talk about rehab and nursing homes next week. Dr.Bajwa was simply amazed when he came in today. He said this is now in God's hands. Okay. I just wanted to give you a quick update.

God does the impossible. Well, I have great news. The doctor talked to my Nana this morning and told her that they were going to put a feeding tube in his stomach and the way he talked it will be real soon. Okay, here's the great news. After they put the feeding tube in, he's coming out off the hospital. Now, he's not going home right away. He's either going to a temporary nursing home or rehabilitation center, we're confused on which. But it's good news to hear he's coming out of the hospital. We know it will be a long recovery, but we don't care, as long as he's recovering. Thanks for all your prayers and remember not only to pray in rough times but also in good times. Thank the Lord.

Great News!!! He's responding to a lot. I was so mad I had to leave today. The therapist came in and was asking him questions and he was answering them and saying oww when they would move him the wrong way. He also had his eyes open for awhile and said hi. I'm really hoping his fever was what was causing it and now hoping he's on his way to recovering. I told you guys to not lose hope and look what's happening. But remember, it will still be a long recovery if he does recover, so keep praying. Thanks!

Nothing much to new. The doctors really didn't tell us anything new today. But I do have good news. He was responding a lot more today. The therapist asked him what his name was and he said, "what?" Also when they were cleaning him up and they moved him and he said, "owwwww!" Then we sat with him for a while and he kept is eyes open for a little bit. When I sang to him he moved like he hasn't moved in a while. His arms were going wild. The one arm he hasn't moved at all and he moved it twice. Tomorrow I'll leaving but I'll try to get you the best updates. I'll be back on Saturday.

Well, it's not looking very good. The doctors are giving us all mixed messages. He isn't responding to any commands. They found that he had a fever and that he might have an infection. Now, I know this sounds weird, but when I heard that I got a little excited. Let me explain. When my grandfather gets a fever, even a low one, he gets horrible, like very groggy. The doctors have been worried about why he hasn't been responding. I'm hoping it's just the infection that's not making him respond and not the damage on the brain. They can take care of infection.
Now I don't want to get all of you hopes up, but listen to my reasoning. The doctors gave us no hope that he would make it through the surgery. We were thinking he wouldn't make it through. But he surprised us with his strength and made it through. Why would God put him through surgery if he wasn't going to make it? And why would God get our hopes up and down? Now I know God does things that we don't always understand and tests us, but I just have this weird feeling that something miraculous is going to happen and this relief. Just keep praying and DON'T LOSE HOPE!

Hey everyone. I just got to the hospital. I haven't seen him yet. The doctors called yesterday and said that there is more bleeding on the brain. That was the first problem we had. That's why he had to have surgery. The blood had turned into a clot and they had to surgically remove it. Now that he made it through surgery, there is more bleeding on the brain. They are going to do a cat scan this morning to see if it's gone up, down, or stayed the same. We'll have the results later. Just pray that it goes away. Basically, that's it for now. Sorry I didn't write yesterday. I had play practice and then we came here (Endicott) and we didn't get here until late. But now that we're here, I should be able to give you more and better updates.
Anyways, I have great news. They moved him out of the Intensive Care Unit and into the Neurosuite. I'll explain for those who don't know. That means he's moved a step down. He's back to where he began. In ICU, they check on him all the time. In the neurosuite they check on him less and the visiting hours are less specific. I think it starts at 10 and goes until 9. We won't be here all that time though so if you want to come when we're here, you might call us before you come.
I saw him last night and I said, "Hi, Papa," and although he has a mask on his face he still got the "h" of hi out. Plus as soon as he heard my sister and I were here, he immediately opened his eyes although he couldn't keep them opened it's still good news. I'm going in to see him in a little bit and I'll give you an update later.
There are still things we're concerned about though, so keep praying. Thanks!

There's not a lot of new news but what I do have is really good. The whole two hours that my Nana was there this afternoon, he had his eyes open. He also understood everything they said and responded by shaking his head. Well, that's all for now.

Although recovery is going to take awhile, he is getting better as the days go by. Today they took him of the respirator, and the nurses said he must have his days and nights mixed up because he had his eyes open last night and was sleeping today. My nana (Gladys) asked him if he loved her and he responded by nodding. He also responded to pain when the nurse pushed on his cuticle.

It's all looking up. The doctors and nurses are saying everything is fine and Dr. Bajwa gave a good report. He's moving his left arm. His skin is getting softer. The nurses said he blinked his eyes too. They also said that in the next few day things will get a lot better. They're going to try to take the respirator out tomorrow.

A Sad Week

Well, it's been nine days since we all had the horrible Saturday at which my grandfather (Larry Mancini) fell down his front steps. It's been long week, but the Lord is taking care of him. He's gotten through brain surgery and he's a lot stronger than everyone imagined. He's a fighter. This morning he had another cat scan and eeg this morning. Don't ask me what an eeg is because i have no idea.
I would like to say though, the nurses and doctors here at Wilson Memorial are the best. Very nice, caring and pleasant.
Visiting hours, if you would like to stop in, are 8-9, 12-2, and 5-9. We are usually here at all those times. My family, including me, my sister, my parents, and my brother are leaving tonight and my cousin, Tina, will be coming to bring my nana to and from the hospital. On Tuesday, Theresa and Tonya will be coming to help. They'll be leaving and my mother, my sister, and I will be coming back. Although we will not be here I will still have updates.
